If you have been wondering about taking that next step, and moving up into a leadership role, you should consider taking Supervising the Disaster Workforce (SDW). This course prepares you to lead a team of disaster workers to deliver high quality client service creating a climate that promotes worker satisfaction. SDW is a required course for all Supervisors.

Prerequisites: 
  • Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview 
  • Training required to be a Service Associate in an activity in which he or she expects to become a supervisor.

The purpose of this course is to prepare participants to support Supply operations by familiarizing them with the tasks they will perform as a Red Cross worker in Supply when assigned to a regional or larger disaster response. The course also provides detailed training on the Disaster Requisition (Form 6409) procedures for requesting and obtaining supplies, tracking the requisition process, and completing the Three-Way match.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the liaison’s roles, responsibilities and assignment settings within the framework of the disaster cycle.
  • Explain the liaison’s role in preparedness efforts.
  • Manage and communicate critical information, offers and requests during the response phase.
  • Explain how to engage with partners to organize recovery efforts.
  • Describe the importance of coordinating with internal and external partners to meet needs and enhance service delivery.
  • Identify tools and resources for emergency management and relief operation settings.
  • Identify next steps to becoming an effective liaison by creating an action plan.
Audience:
Individuals interested in becoming government liaisons who have previous Red Cross experience and have completed the course prerequisites.
